According to Ayurveda every woman and man, who want to have a child together, first ought to prepare themselves consciously for the conception. A considerable time before the conception, both of them should maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to be able to give birth to a baby, who will be as healthy as possible. Healthy with regard to both the mind and the body. A healthy lifestyle means in accordance with Ayurveda, that everything you eat as well as the way you live should be tuned to your unique constitution. After all every human being is unique. A well-balanced lifestyle also gives birth to a well-balanced child.
In Ayurveda there is a lot of attention for the pregnant woman and later on also for the mother and the baby. Everything is being done to make the mother-to-be feel satisfied, glad and happy during her entire pregnancy. Anything that causes tension or stress has to be kept far away from her. Late night parties, fasting, cleaning cures, exercises which are causing pressure on the belly (abdomen), are altogether not advisable during the pregnancy. During the last two months pregnant women are not allowed to fly anymore. According to Ayurveda this also applies to the first three months of the pregnancy. Flying increases the air component inside the body. The energy vata increases and a surplus of vata could cause an early disposal of the embryo.
Inconveniences during the pregnancy are often being solved in Ayurveda by means of adjustment of the nutrition and life style. As from the 5th month Ayurveda prescribes pregnancy massages, which are healing for both mother and child. The massages help to prevent inconveniences during the pregnancy. They make the body pliable and strong and they are a good preparation for the delivery.
After the delivery
A pregnancy and a childbirth (delivery) are radical events which you experience in your life as a result of being a woman. During the pregnancy and the delivery there has been a lot of changes in your body as well as in your (daily) life. You’ll need time to get used to this. During the pregnancy there is a lot of attention for the mother to be and the unborn child, especially in the western society. After the delivery you’ll get maternity care for a couple of days and after this you’ll be handed over to yourself, whereas exactly during this period you’re especially in need of a lot of physical and mental support.
According to Ayurveda both mother and baby should get intensive care during 6 weeks (about 40 days) after the delivery. This period of intensive care aids the mother to summon up the strength, which she has lost during the pregnancy. This way the baby is also getting the care, which is necessary to be able to grow well. Consequently both mother and child are also getting the time and opportunity to get properly used to each other. Together with the other members of the family.
Spiritual process
Pregnancy is a spiritual process. You adopt a subordinate position towards something of a higher level. Not you, but your child is the key figure.
In order to be able to experience this whole process in a positive way, your immediate environment has to be peaceful. This way you’ll be able to experience relaxation and happiness. To put it even more simple: Mother has to be happy, as a result of which all the rest will feel well too.
